Skullcandy Sesh truly wireless earbuds review
11 November 2019, 9:52 pm

The Skullcandy Sesh is yet another pair of wireless earphones for those on a budget. It has a truly wireless design that sits completely in your ears similar to the AirPods but unlike Apple's alternative, it costs just $60 and also has water and dust resistance. Like most truly wireless earbuds, the Skullcandy Sesh come with a carry case that is also their charger. The case has a horizontal, pill-shaped design, which can be opened with one hand if you hold it sideways. You do still need two hands to take the ear buds out and wear them and you shouldn't attempt doing that with one...

The rugged Doogee S68 Pro has two panes of GG4 over its screen, three cameras on its back
11 November 2019, 8:02 pm

While many smartphones today are water resistant, few are properly rugged - certainly not in the way that the Doogee S68 Pro is. The phone is launching today and since it's a holiday (11.11 aka Singles' Day), the phone costs $200 right now (and will be $220 tomorrow). The sides of the phone are made of titanium-aluminum alloy and its corners have rubber shock absorbers. The alloy chassis extends behind the screen, giving it support in the event of a drop. And get this - Doogee used two layers of Gorilla Glass 4 to make the display even more resilient. The display itself features a...

11 November 2019, 5:08 pm

Samsung to start selling Galaxy M phones at offline retailers in 2020
11 November 2019, 3:59 pm

Samsung introduced the affordable Galaxy M lineup in the Indian market to reverse the massive loss of share in the last few quarters. The devices can be found on Flipkart, Amazon and on Samsung's own website, as well as the Samsung Experience Stores across the country. However, one big field is missing - the third-party offline market, and the Korean giant is planning to fix that in 2020. According to a report from The Economic Times, plenty of retailers demanded the major manufacturers like Xiaomi, vivo, Oppo, and Samsung, to start working with them again due to the 30-40% decline...

Samsung signs exclusive deal with Ultra Thin Glass supplier for future foldables
11 November 2019, 3:06 pm

Samsung has secured an exclusive deal with Dowoo Insis for Ultra Thing Glass (UTG), which will be used in future foldable phones. The exclusivity means that Dowoo will only sell UTG to Samsung and no one else. Currently, the company can produce an estimated 500,000 units per month. The glass is believed is less than 100µm thick, perhaps as thin as 30µm (that's less than a human hair). Still, it is much more resilient than the polyamide plastic used in the current Galaxy Fold, at least when it comes to scratches. Dowoo Insis has received a KRW 12 billion investment from Samsung Venture...

There were some rumors the phone might have a Samsung or LG screen for the global market, but a Xiaomi executive announced the sole provider of displays is Visionox - the company that developed the wrap-up solution of the Mi Mix Alpha. Visionox is lead by the OLED team from Tsinghua University in Beijing, which is #16 in the QS World University Ranking for 2020, leapfrogging Yale and Columbia Universities. The Mi Note 10/Mi CC9 Pro project is third for the company after a foldable prototype and...

11 November 2019, 1:25 pm

Google has released an update that fixes the auto white balance issue on the Pixel 4 devices that some users had brought to light last month. The fix is part of the November security patch that is now rolling out to all Pixel devices, although the camera fix is only for the latest models. How it looked (Pixel 4) • How it should look (iPhone X) A few days ago, a reddit user brought to attention the issue with the Pixel 4 auto white balance, which had a tendency to correct strong, deliberate colors. When shooting a picture in a room that only has a red light source (a Philips Hue...

11 November 2019, 12:39 pm

Less than a week after it released its latest roadmap, Huawei is now pushing the latest stable EMUI 10 update based on Android 10 to its Huawei P30 and P30 Pro smartphones. To be honest, though, the company did say it should land the OTA update sometime around mid-November. Huawei announced on Weibo that the update should arrive to Huawei P30 and P30 Pro Chinese owners any moment now, which suggests that the global variant will get it shortly after. The new EMUI 10 brings a design overhaul and Android 10-inherent features as well. As per Huawei's release roadmap, Mate 20 and 20 Pro...

Mpow H12 noise-cancelling wireless headphones review
11 November 2019, 6:00 am

Introduction The Mpow H12 are wireless over-ear headphones with active noise cancellation that at the time of writing cost €40/£45/$42. They come in a simple box with a suede-like carrying pouch, an audio cable and a microUSB cable for charging. Mpow H12 retail package More importantly they have a 4.5 out of 5 star rating across over 1,200 users on Amazon, which makes them one of the preferred reasonably-priced ANC (active noise cancellation) wireless headphones around. So I decided to give them a spin around town, the office, the gym and the commute and see if they're...

Top 10 trending phones of week 45
11 November 2019, 2:00 am

Last week the four most popular smartphones in our database were all made by Xiaomi and this time the Chinese maker has expanded to cover the entire top 6. The Mi Note 10 was on top before it was announced so it was no surprise that it's still on the podium in the week that the company made it official. It was however pushed down to second place by the Pro version with the first 8P lens on a smartphone that made a debut alongside it. Then we have the Redmi Note 8 Pro, which also took a step back, but still manage to fend off the Chinese version of the Mi Note 10 - the Mi CC9 Pro....

Nokia 6.2 in for review
10 November 2019, 7:00 pm

Since Nokia's Renaissance with Android began in 2017 the maker has relied on its midrange to expand market share and so far it's worked. Nokias nowadays promise clean Android One software, a recognizable Nokia design, good hardware and reasonable pricing. The Nokia 6.2 encompasses all of those traits but is now threatened from all sides by competent Chinese rivals that's are quickly expanding to western markets. You can buy a Xiaomi Redmi Note 8, or a Realme X2 in Europe and for almost the same €250 as the Nokia 6.2. Is the Nokia brand name enough to sway buyers from those tempting Chinese...

Weekly poll: Xiaomi Mi Note 10 - is this the new camera king?
10 November 2019, 3:00 pm

The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 is the first smartphone in the world to bring a 108MP camera - that's 13 times the resolution of a 4K TV! It's also the first phone to offer five different focal lengths, something the Nokia 9 PureView (the first penta camera phone) could not manage. And yet this is a mid-range phone - the Snapdragon 730G is a solid performer, but certainly not at a flagship level. It limits video capture to 30fps at 2160p resolution and is hooked up to a modest 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage (not even UFS 3.0, but 2.1 instead). Maybe we should clear things up. The Mi Note 10...

ROG Phone II software update adds horizontal and vertical swipe mapping to AirTriggers
10 November 2019, 12:00 pm

Having tested pretty much every "gaming" phone to come out in recent year, we can safely say that Asus went above and beyond the rest of the crop creating a flushed-out powerhouse experience and an amazing accessory ecosystem to go with it. Most gripes we had with the phone in our full review were pretty much limited to software and the odd omission. Basically the definition of nitpicking. Well, the new 16.0631.1910.35 software update actually addresses quite a few of these. Another major thing it brings in is the software backing to finally take full advantage of the phone's advanced second...

Weekly poll results: in-display fingerprint readers are preferable to face recognition
10 November 2019, 9:00 am

Three quarters of voters in last week's poll prefer an in-display fingerprint reader over a face recognition system. There were discussions of security and practicality, but hardware limitations also played a role - face scanning equals a large notch or a chunky top bezel. Of course, many people were saying "why not both?", but makers tend to go with one or the other - e.g. when Apple introduced Face ID, it dropped Touch ID, Google followed a very similar path. Huawei did offer both with the Mate 20 Pro, but that didn't last. The Huawei P30 Pro dropped the 3D face scanner on the front...
